Cost:$25.95 CAD, or approx. $30 CAD after tax. Includes a bar with 6 squares of the henna. Depending on your hair length and volume, you may not need all 6 squares. One bar is 325g. Pros:1. Completely natural 2. Deep conditions hair 3. Works very well to darken hair (you will not see a noticeable difference if you have black hair or dark brown hair) 4. Great colours to choose from. You can also combine them to create some very nice colours. 5. Easy/fun activity for a stay in night 6. Easy to store remainder of bar. Cons:1. Very messy if you are not careful. 2. Very strong smell while the henna is wet. 3. Time consuming. You will need to set off a night for this. 4. May make your neck slightly sore from the weight of your hair. Overall I feel the pros far outweigh the cons for this product. I am very satisfied with the product and would highly recommend it if you're past due for a little change. |
Tips (learn from my mistakes)
DO:
- Leave overnight or as long as possible if you want the colour to last longer.
- Try to completely cover the area of hair you want to dye with henna and saran wrap (do not miss too many strands).
- Confine yourself to a small-ish area for the night so you have less of a mess to clean up later. Bring snacks and things to keep you busy.
- Lay down newspaper everywhere you think you will walk to save your floor/carpet. I made a path to my bed from the bathroom. Make sure you recycle this afterward or save it for the next time you need it!
- Do a test strand before you try your whole head of hair in case the colour is not for you. Lush has a very good return policy.
- Use Ultrabalm to protect your skin. Apply to areas of your skin you think the paste might touch including your neck, ears, and hairline.
- Add boiling water until you get a yogurt consistency. If the paste is too dry, it won't cover all the the strands of hair properly.
- Wear a shirt you don't care about and that covers most of your skin. It will most likely be ruined afterward.
- Do this away from people unless you are doing it with someone because you don't want to bother them with the mess and the smell.
- Devote a night to this
- Remove your jewelry before starting.
DON'T:
- DON'T leave in your hair for less than 2 hours. This will be a waste of 30 bucks unless you want it to fade relatively soon.
- DON'T try to bleach or change the colour of your hair until the henna has faded. It will only make the henna harder to remove. Henna works in the opposite way to your typical store bought dye and will move further into your hair cuticles if you try to bleach your hair.
- DON'T roam around too much while you wait. You might want to do this before you go to bed so you don't have to risk soiling the rest of your house.
- DON'T wear clothes you like
- DON'T wrap your whole head in saran wrap if you have ombre hair because you do not want to be dying parts of your hair that you would like to leave the natural colour.

Overall Comments:
I was very happy with this product and would definitely recommend it if you don't mind dealing with the mess and can handle a somewhat strong smell. I found this to be great for darkening my fading ombre hair. I didn't have to worry about being a little sloppy about the job I did because my natural hair is black, so it didn't affect the colour except in places I wanted it to. It looked great with the messy job I did because some of the strands of hair remained lighter and some got darker, so I ended up with a really nice multi-toned effect.
5/5 stars for sure.
