The family and I recently made a trip to Boston over Canada's long weekend. This may sound very ignorant to those of you who live in or have been to Boston (so brace yourselves), but I wasn't super excited because I didn't know what to see in the city. About a month earlier we made a trip to New York and comparatively, I was left wondering how this city could possibly live up to the tourist wonderland we call NYC.
Boy was I ever wrong (and pleasantly surprised, I might add).
Boston is such a beautiful city and it has so much to offer. I wish we spent more time causally strolling through the city so that I could get more Pinterest-quality snaps (as my stepdad would call them).

What I didn't realize about this city is that it would feel like home to me. One aspect of New York City that made it somewhat unappealing to me was that it was very touristy. I didn't feel like I was having a unique travel experience because the city had been experienced in such a similar way by millions of other people. In Boston, I felt like you could just walk around and enjoy the city as it is without rushing to see as many attractions and tourist sites as possible (although that is what we did). I really enjoyed how the pace of the city was a little slower.
Although I would have liked to spend more time just walking around the city and enjoying it like a typical citizen of Boston, we did see a few attractions during the trip. I can't say I was disappointed. The aquarium was really a delight (except that the smell of the sea was a little overwhelming for some people). I did not expect it to be half as impressive as it was. I got some really nice footage of some jellyfish and penguins which you can watch in the video above. It was a really cool experience to touch a stingray as well! They're really slimy!

As well visiting the aquarium, we also took a visit to the science museum. I found it a little strange how you have to pay for most things separately from the general admission to the permanent gallery. I thought it might make sense to include those things in an overall price. Although, I can see the value in having them separate as well since it allows you the freedom to see less things and not feel like you're losing money for not getting the best value out of your admission.
My favourite parts of the museum had to be the butterfly garden and the lightning show. I couldn't believe how many butterflies they kept in that garden and how you could get so close to them without them being perturbed. They happily allowed me to get inches away from them in order to get some nice pictures. The lightning show was also really cool (albeit very loud). To finish off the show, they even managed to play the William Tell Overture with Tesla Coils that were wired (literally) to produce different frequencies.
Boston was overall a really nice place and I would love to go back!
